Dr. Howard Small

Dr. Howard Small

Dr. Small is a native of Philadelphia and a proud graduate of The Penn State University (1988) and The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (1992). Dr. Small’s passion, love, and respect for animals began at an early age when his Dad exposed him to the sport of sled dog racing. Learning to breed and treat his Siberian Husky dogs further nurtured his interest to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. In 1996, Dr. Small followed his family to Sarasota, and he has been a member of the community ever since.

Most recently, Dr. Small realized his dream of practice ownership with the purchase of Forest Lakes Animal Clinic (FLAC) after 10 years of employment at his Lakewood Ranch practice.

Dr. Small is an accomplished veterinary surgeon and enjoys treating challenging cases such as cancer and tumor management, dentistry services, allergic skin diseases, and diseases of the urinary tract.

Dr. Small also enjoys research and is the consulting veterinarian for The Roskamp Institute in Sarasota; a world leader in drug discovery and Alzheimer’s disease.

In addition, Dr. Small is the medical director for Donte’s Den Foundation; the premier canine pet sanctuary caring for homeless dogs.

Dr. Small is happily married and resides in Lakewood Ranch with his wife Alli and daughters Sophia (17) and Ava (13). His pet family includes 2 Shetland Sheepdogs (Sadie and Carmine), a Netherland Dwarf Rabbit (Mr. Bun), a Chinchilla (Ms. Chin), and Freddy the Betta fish.

He is looking forward to meeting all of Dr “K’s” wonderful clients and pets and also welcomes his previous Lakewood Ranch clients.

Dr. campbell

Dr. Campbell grew up in Northern New Jersey but has since lived in several places before recently settling in Sarasota, FL. She has always loved animals, but it wasn't until she was doing manatee research with Mote Marine Laboratory in 2010 that she realized she wanted to be a vet.

She graduated from Ross University in 2014 and did her clinical training at Louisiana State University. From there, she did her general practice and emergency internship in San Diego, CA, where she stayed for 6 years practicing small animal medicine.

She has taken several courses and continuing education to pursue her special interests in pain management, geriatric medicine, and palliative care. She is also passionate about animal rescue, and does fundraising and fostering in her spare time.

For fun, she likes to kayak with her husband Zach, and hang out at home with her two dogs, Jeffrey and Layla, and her two cats, Luna and Gumbo. She also enjoys sculpture, drawing, and gardening.

Dr. Mac Griffin

Dr. Griffin

Dr. Mac Griffin, the newest member of the Forest Lakes team, grew up in a military family which allow him to live in numerous place in the United States and Europe. Dr. Griffin graduated from Colorado State University with an undergraduate degree in microbiology then remained at Colorado State to finish with as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Griffin practiced primarily in the Denver Colorado area. He is the former owner of two practices. Dr. Griffin served on the executive board for the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and on the executive board for several nonprofit animal rescue organizations. Janice, Dr. Griffin’s wife is excited to be joining him in Sarasota with all it has to offer. They are the proud pet parents of Priya, a Black Russian Terrier, and Evan, a rescued Golden Retriever. Dr. Griffin’s areas of special interest include dentistry and surgery. He is hoping to continue to add new services to the already outstanding at FLAC.

Dr. Bob Hill

Dr. Bob Rill

Dr. Rill, as many refer to him as Dr. Bob, has had an impressive and award-winning career in the Veterinary profession. He was born and raised in Lancaster, Pa. He is a graduate of the Univerisity of Deleware and the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical School. Dr. Rill initially started his first veterinary hospital in Carlisle, Pa. After 13 years of small and exotic pet practice, he and his family and numerous pets moved to Sarasota, Fl. where he continued working as a Veterinary Relief Practioner until it became apparent that Dr. Rill would once again purchase his next veterinary hospital (University Animal Clinic).

Dr. Rill was one of the 3400 veterinarians in the United States to receive his AAHA accreditation. He also received numerous awards including being voted the “Best Veterinarian of the Suncoast”, #1 Veterinarian in Sarasota County by the “Peoples Choice” for 3 different years. He was the first veterinarian in the Sarasota, Manatee counties to be nominated for the “Small Business of the year award” where he became one of the top 10 finalists. Dr. Rill became the Veterinary Medical Director for the Sarasota Kennel Club where he handled over 500 greyhounds daily during the racing season. He is also known for his community contributions by giving his educational expertise via monthly publications in “Suncoast Pets”.

After the sale of his last practice, University Animal Clinic, he returned to his Veterinary Relief Services with full-time scheduling. Dr. Rill's hobbies are wildlife photography, scuba diving, and family travel, to name a few. Dr. Rill is happy to be joining Dr. Small and the Forest Lake Animal Hospital where he continues to use his expertise in Veterinary Medicine.
